Whitley Sue Hedger, age 13, of Edwardsville, Illinois lost her battle with cancer at 1:52 AM on Monday, March 30, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville where she was also born on February 2, 2002. She is the daughter of Shawn and Christy (Widener) Jennings, Joe and Jerri Hedger, and Rick Shaw, all of Edwardsville. In addition to her parents she leaves behind her sister Abigail, brother Jacob and 4 step sisters, Taylor, Kaitlynn, Katie and Madison; grandparents, Debra and Keith Dudas of Indianapolis, Indiana, Johnny and Julie Widener of Frankfort, Kentucky, Bill and Kay Knecht of Highland, Illinois, Robert and Nelda Hedger of Edwardsville, and Mark and Teresa Corso of Edwardsville, step grandparents Bob and Beth Jennings of Edwardsville, Cecil Gaither of Lebanon and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by a step grandmother, Marilyn Gaither. Whitley was a 7th grade honor roll student at Lincoln Middle School. She attended dance classes at Rena's Dance Unlimited since she was 3 and was a beautiful ballerina. Her love for music ran deep and was evident in her abilities to play piano and sing in the school chorus. She loved the outdoors and spent much of her time playing softball, riding her 4 wheeler, fishing and practicing archery with her dads. Everything she did, she did with 100% effort and her fight with childhood brain cancer was no different. Whitley was the oldest of 3 and was an amazing big sister. She was kind and generous and always looked out for others. She was blessed with so many wonderful friends and was loved by everyone who met her. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 7 PM. The family requests that memorials be made in Whitley's name to The Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation (http://www.childhoodbraintumor.org/support-cbtf-nav) or to Wishes for Whitley at the Bank of Edwardsville in lieu of flowers.
